Post-Secondary Students Struggle with Low Vacancy, Higher Rent and Higher Tuition

NDP Advanced Education critic Cam Broten sharply criticized the Wall Government’s lack of progress on affordable housing options, citing the long wait lists of students unable to find affordable rental units. Broten pointed out that under the Wall Government, post-secondary students and their families have faced a rising cost of living, with increases to both tuition and rent well above the rate of inflation.

“Students from the University of Regina, University of Saskatchewan, First Nations University of Canada and SIAST are all clamouring to get their names on wait lists for residence openings and are unable to find quality affordable housing. This only highlights the obvious need for more housing and the Wall Government’s failure to address those needs,” Broten said.
